So…looks like Sidney Lowe wins the sweepstakes to get the coaching job nobody seemed to want. I am actually undecided whether this is a good thing or not. On one hand you have a guy who is going to be fired up about the program (since he played their in the early 80's) and will likely bring the passion that was missing from the Sendek era. On the other hand, you get a guy with no college coaching experience, and his NBA experience was rather dismal 30-97 record (albeit for wretched franchises). Another plus is he obviously has tons of NBA contacts, which is attractive to potential recruits.
But is Lowe the guy to bring NC State to the promised land? Only time will tell, and I think a lot is going to hinge on who he brings along on his staff. In looking at all this though, I still believe the program would have been better with Herb, but we'll see how it plays out. I am sure State fans are anxiously hoping to avoid a Doherty experience.
